Recognized Sources for Foreign Price Verification and Formulas: 2018
France
The recognized price source for France is Vidal that publishes “PFHT” in Euro (EUR) which is the ex-factory wholesale price (WP) for reimbursed drugs. Vidal also publishes “Px-Retro” which is the hospital price for drugs dispensed in hospital to out-patients and is not an ex-factory price. Patentees should report only the “PFHT” price. In the case where “PFHT” prices are not available Board Staff may consider alternative price sources on case by case basis.
Germany
The recognized price source for Germany is Lauer-Taxe that publishes the manufacturer’s list price of drugs in Euro (EUR). Board Staff will derive the ex-factory wholesale price (WP) by subtracting statutory rebates from the list price. The formula is:
- WP = APU - Pflichtrabatt des pharmazeutischen Unternehmers (PDPU)
Lauer-Taxe also publishes the ex-factory hospital price, known as “Taxe-Klinik EK”. The Taxe-Klinik EK price will only be considered if the APU is unavailable.

The Red Book publishes a wholesale acquisition cost (WAC) price which is equivalent to an ex-factory wholesale price (WP). The Red Book also publishes a direct price (DP). The DP may be filed as an ex-factory pharmacy price (PP) or an ex-factory hospital price (HP), but only if it differs from the WAC. The FSS price should be reported as “Other-FSS”. The prices are reported in US dollar (US$).
Notes – Rounding
